Background Description

Founded on April 20, 2000, China Mobile Communications Corporation (China Mobile for short) owns 100% of the common stock of China Mobile (Hong Kong) (CLH) and holds the controlling share of China Mobile Ltd, who has established wholly-owned subsidiaries in the 31 provincial regions around China and has been listed in Hong Kong and New York Exchanges. As the world’s largest telecommunications operator in terms of network scale, customer base and market value, China Mobile strives to continuously expand its global network and international business.

From 2004 to September 30, 2006, China Mobile invested a total of 13 billion RMB to provide telephone services for 29,773 villages nationwide, increasing the ratio of village-access-to-telephone by 4.3 percent. In September 2005, China Mobile established a rural information platform in Chongqing Municipality, which provides agriculture-related information like government regulations, agricultural technologies, market dynamics, weather forecasts, employment information and so on. Besides, China Mobile invested 74.75 million RMB in poverty alleviation and Tibetan development support, donated 30 million RMB for the education cause of Western China, and donated another 40 million RMB for the development of the youth in rural areas. Up to September, 2006, the program had recycled a total of 60,000 used mobile phones or accessories.
